Hiking along a trail in the Appalachian mountains in early June, my husband and I came upon a swift mountain stream surrounded by towering rhododendrons covered in these beautiful blossoms. The playful and delicate blooms are sweetly illustrated in this watercolor painting.

Painted in soft whites with hints of purple and deep earthy greens, this painting memorializes the soft grandeur of these stunning flowers, a staple of southern summers.
