European Peacock

Painted in a warm red, juxtaposed with bright yellow pops and gentle dark undertones of gray and green, this painting depicts the intricate beauty of the European Peacock Butterfly, capturing the amazing flow of color in the wing pattern of this magnificent creature. "European Peacock” or Aglais IO is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family and genus Aglais, found in Europe and Asia as far east as Japan. The base of the wings are a warm red with distinctive black, blue and yellow eye spots at the top, its main defense mechanism against predators.
