This botanical watercolor painting gracefully illustrates the soft variety of tones within a hydrangea bloom. Hydrangea is a genus of plants native to Asia and North America. These beautiful flowers bloom from early spring to late fall, and have colors ranging from white to blue, pink and purple. The color of blooms alters as a result of aluminium ions present in soil dependent on the soil’s pH.
The soft blues, pinks, purples and greens layered together in this simplistic piece create an elegant scientific study. “Hydrangea Bloom” is part of my collection WILD, a series of watercolor botanical illustrations inspired by Terry Tempest William's words "To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from."
